My name is Mariella Jaramillo. I am very excited to join Summit Charter Academy Mathew Campus/Family. Teaching has been my passion since I was a child. I would always help the new classmates in our class get to know the rest of our group and practice the new language.

I am the oldest of three siblings and the first to get a college degree. I am thankful for my parents' support which has helped me get where I am today. My effort has influenced the rest of my family to obtain a profession.  Growing up in a Spanish speaking house has given me continuous experience with speaking and writing the language. It has also helped me see how important it is to be fluent in two languages. This will be an advantageous for our students when they begin their careers. Having two children myself, I emphasize to them the importance of speaking both languages. David will start kindergarten here at our campus next year and little Kriztine will follow in a couple of years.

My educational preparation is an AA in Liberal Studies from Porterville College, my BA in Liberal Studies with a minor in child development and music from California State University of Bakersfield, and my multiple subjects teaching credential with emphasis BCLAD for bilingual classes from California State University of Bakersfield.

My teaching experience started as a teachers assistant in special education for 5 years and then as a regular education teacher's assistant all in elementary levels.   Working with kids and meeting their needs is very fulfilling.  I also did four years of after school intervention.

After teaching for the past ten years in regular English schools, this will be my first year teaching at a dual immersion campus. Having my BCLAD, I did my Spanish student teaching in 3rd grade. I have taught K, K/1 combo, 6/7 combo and 7th grade.

I think that our students grow educationally everyday not only in the classroom from our teaching, giving them tools to learn, and their peer experiences but with the parental support they receive everyday at home. Parent/teacher involvement is very important in a student's career. I am here to enrich our student's minds and remind them everyday that they are great thinkers and our future professionals.
